Beginning of march Svitzer salvage was awarded the contract for the salvage of a tug and barge combination capsized near Sao Fransisco do Sul.
The combination was loaded with steel coils and capsized just outside the busy shipping lane for entering SFS port. Because of the sensitivity of this location, the casualty will be removed to a more sheltered area for parbuckling and uprighting the combination. In order to be able to move the casualty she will be separated from the superstructure on which she is currently lying. This will be done by the use of an abrasive cutting system and shaped charges.
As soon as the casualty is removed from her current location, cargo removal operation will start in order to retrieve the cargo and the leftovers of the superstructure.
During the whole operation specialised equipment will be available on site in order to counterattack any spill of oil and/or pollutants from the casualty.Beginning of march Svitzer salvage was awarded the contract for the salvage of a tug and barge combination capsized near Sao Fransisco do Sul.
